From there, a 12-minute walk reaches the Botanic Garden’s Bicentennial Conservatory, where indoor temperatures stay at 22 degrees and staff run free 20-minute plant hunts for children on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Both sites sit inside the parklands loop, so parents can return to a car parked on Frome Road without backtracking through the CBD.
City of Adelaide records list 1,248 family memberships sold for the zoo and garden combined in the first half of 2026, up from 1,019 in the same period of 2025. Average spend per family on one combined visit sits at $68 when including the adjacent café on Plane Tree Drive.
One afternoon route that works
Start at the zoo gate at 10 am, finish the main path by noon, then cross North Terrace for the conservatory session at 12:30 pm. Pack snacks rather than buying lunch on site to keep the total under $50 for two adults and two children. End at the fenced playground near the garden’s Goodman Building, which has shaded seating and a water fountain. The entire loop measures 2.8 kilometres on foot and stays within the council’s free shuttle zone after 2 pm.
