More than 2,800 people registered for weekend community sports sessions in Adelaide last week, the highest single-week total recorded by Sport SA since tracking began in 2023.

The rise matters now because winter fixtures in local leagues have just wrapped up, leaving facilities and clubs with extra capacity before the spring schedule starts in August.

Numbers grew fastest at Victoria Park on the eastern edge of the city and along the shared paths beside the Torrens River near Bonython Park. Both sites run free drop-in sessions on Saturday mornings through the Adelaide Parkrun network and the City of Adelaide Active Parks program.

Local venues record steady gains

Victoria Park hosted 640 participants across its Saturday and Sunday offerings, up from 510 the previous weekend. The Torrens River path saw 480 runners and cyclists in organised groups, according to the same Sport SA report. Entry to most of these sessions costs between $5 and $12, with family passes available for $25.

Statewide figures released on 10 July show a 14 percent increase in weekly registrations compared with the same period in 2025. The data covers 47 clubs and 19 council-run programs operating inside the Adelaide local government area.

Next steps for residents

Anyone wanting to join can check the Sport SA website for updated timetables or visit the Active Parks desk at the Adelaide City Library on Flinders Street before the end of July. New sessions at both Victoria Park and the Torrens River path begin again on 18 July.
