Eleven-year-old Alex Kouts from Adelaide was selected to join the inaugural 7AFL Kids Call, placing juniors in the commentary box for an AFL match broadcast on 7plus Sport in June 2025. This opportunity forms part of efforts to build youth engagement ahead of the next season.
South Australia launched a $1 million initiative in May 2026 to attract young sport volunteers. Over 700 Adelaide students attended the 'Heart of the Community' expo at the South Australian Sports Institute. These steps come as programs continue to expand access for juniors across the city.
The 2024-25 Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program awarded $5.6 million to 31 SA projects. This included $500,000 for the City of Port Adelaide Enfield to build a new cricket practice facility and $448,600 for Adelaide Lions Cricket Club net upgrades. The SA Government's $2.4 million Active State program targets youth engagement, including an Active Youth initiative for disengaged teens in Port Lincoln and training resources for neurodivergent children.
Three young South Australian baseball players from Adelaide-area programs at Wallace, Southern Districts and Adelaide Baseball Club recently signed with the Adelaide Giants. These signings demonstrate pathways available through local clubs for players moving toward senior levels.
Programs such as the 7AFL Kids Call and the Active State initiatives provide structured entry points for young participants. Residents can review details on involvement through the South Australian Sports Institute and affiliated clubs listed in program announcements. Updates on volunteer opportunities and facility access appear on official government and sport organisation channels.
