Golden Wattle Park upgrade gives Adelaide clubs modern base for growth

Work on a replacement sporting facility at Golden Wattle Park in Adelaide will start within weeks, giving clubs a modern base to keep expanding community programs.

The project targets Park 21W along Goodwood Road, where ageing clubrooms have limited options for teams and schools. Adelaide residents have seen steady growth in local sport participation, and updated spaces help clubs meet that demand without turning people away.

Multiple codes share the site

Football, cricket, soccer, ultimate frisbee and netball all use the grounds, along with school sport sessions. The new building will keep those groups active during construction by delivering the project in stages so existing clubrooms stay open until the first new section is ready.

Six unisex change rooms, a kitchen, common area, kiosk, umpire rooms and first aid space form the core of the upgrade. Public toilets and sheltered outdoor areas add everyday use for players and spectators in the Park Lands setting.

Funding and design details

The Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing has put $1.5 million into the project through its funding programs, according to the Glam Adelaide report on the City of Adelaide plans. Natural light, ventilation, a cool roof and native plantings are included to fit the surrounding Park Lands environment.

Site preparation is listed to begin in April, with the full build handled in phases to minimise disruption for current users. Completion timing has not been announced yet.
