Adelaide runners and walkers can sign up now for three community fitness events set for the next three weekends. The first is a 5km charity walk along the Adelaide Linear Park trail on July 18, followed by a fun run at Glenelg beach on July 25 and a parkrun meetup at the Botanic Gardens on July 26.

These gatherings draw people outdoors during the cooler winter months when indoor routines often replace regular movement. Organisers report steady interest from locals who want structured group activity without gym fees or complex equipment.

Events along Linear Park and Glenelg

The Linear Park trail stretches 50km from the foothills to the sea and will host the July 18 charity walk starting at the O-Bahn City Access point near Hackney Road. Participants will cover a 5km section ending near the Central Market, where stalls sell fresh produce for post-walk recovery. Glenelg beach fitness sessions on July 25 begin at the jetty and include a 3km fun run on the sand followed by group stretches.

The Botanic Gardens parkrun meets every Saturday at 8am near the Goodman Building on Hackney Road. July 26 will feature an extra charity element with proceeds going to a local youth program. Runners can choose the standard 5km loop or a shorter 2km option around the gardens' lake.

Numbers and costs

Last year's Linear Park charity walk recorded 420 finishers, with entry fees set at $18 for adults and $10 for students. Registration closes July 15 for the upcoming event. Glenelg sessions cost $12 and include a free water bottle. The Botanic Gardens parkrun remains free but asks for a $5 gold-coin donation on charity days.

Locals can register through the Adelaide City Council website or at the Glenelg Visitor Centre on Jetty Road. Those new to group exercise should start with the shorter distances and check weather updates for July mornings that often begin around 8 degrees Celsius.
