Best Family Activities in Adelaide: Zoo, Museum and the Cleland Wildlife Park

Adelaide is one of Australia's most family-friendly cities, with a concentration of accessible attractions at reasonable prices and the Cleland Wildlife Park in the Hills offering one of the country's best native wildlife encounters within 30 minutes of the city. Adelaide Zoo on Frome Road in the Botanic Park precinct north of the CBD is Australia's second-oldest zoo and houses Giant Pandas Wang Wang and Fu Ni as its signature attraction, alongside a comprehensive wildlife collection with particular strength in its Australian native animal exhibits. The South Australian Museum on North Terrace, adjacent to the State Library and Art Gallery, has outstanding collections covering natural history, South Australian history and Pacific and First Nations cultures, with free general admission and a particular strength in opal and mineralogy displays. Cleland Conservation Park and Wildlife Park on Summit Road in the Adelaide Hills is a 30-minute drive from the city and provides one of Australia's best koala-holding and native wildlife encounter experiences in a natural bushed setting. The Adelaide Oval, when not hosting cricket or AFL, offers roof-climb experiences. The Migration Museum on Kintore Avenue in the CBD is a free museum covering South Australia's immigration history. The Monarto Safari Park east of the city near Murray Bridge has African wildlife in a vast open reserve setting accessible only by safari bus.
