Rainy Day Activities in Adelaide: Indoor Options for the City

Adelaide's Mediterranean climate means cold fronts and rainy days are concentrated in the May to August winter period, and the city has good indoor options for these days. The South Australian Museum on North Terrace is one of the great natural history museums in the Southern Hemisphere, with free entry and collections covering Antarctic and Pacific Island natural history, opal geology, and First Nations artefacts. The Art Gallery of South Australia, also on North Terrace and free, has a nationally significant collection including significant European and Australian works. The State Library of South Australia on North Terrace is a beautifully heritage-listed public space open to visitors. Central Market on Gouger Street is an indoor experience in its own right, with the full range of stalls accessible regardless of weather. Adelaide's escape rooms, indoor climbing gyms and bowling alleys are spread across the inner suburbs. The Hindmarsh and Port Adelaide cinema complexes serve the western suburbs. The Adelaide Zoo in the Botanic Gardens precinct is largely outdoors but worth visiting even in light rain.
