Things to Do in Adelaide with Kids: Museums, Zoos and Beach Days
Adelaide has a genuinely strong family offering across its cultural institutions, coast and hills. The Adelaide Zoo on Frome Road in the botanic precinct is one of the oldest zoos in the Southern Hemisphere, with a Giant Panda exhibit that remains a significant draw. The South Australian Museum on North Terrace has free entry and world-class natural history and First Nations collections. The Art Gallery of South Australia next door also has family programs. Monarto Safari Park, about 50 minutes east of the city, is one of the world's largest open-range zoos. Glenelg Beach is the most accessible beach for families and has the Moseley Square playground and waterfront dining strip. Himeji Gardens in Kensington and the Adelaide Botanic Garden (free, with a bicentennial conservatory) add further family-friendly half-day options. The Adelaide Hills have accessible wildlife parks and farm experiences within 45 minutes of the city.
