Adelaide University Rugby Sevens 2026 National Finals

The University of Adelaide rugby sevens program confirmed its core roster on July 10 and named a September 12-14 national finals window in Sydney as the immediate target after an expanded winter camp.

That schedule lands right after the July school break when most student-athletes return from regional placements. National finals qualification this year carries extra weight because UniSport Australia added two new division-one spots for eastern states teams, lifting total berths to 14 and forcing Adelaide sides to secure top-four finishes in their pool stages.

Training venues and local programs

Daily sessions for the University of Adelaide side run at the North Terrace Sports Hub beside the River Torrens, while Flinders University athletes use the Bedford Park oval complex and the adjacent Marion Sports Centre for recovery work. Both programs share a Wednesday night combined weights session at the Adelaide City Fitness facility on Hindley Street, a change introduced last month to cut individual gym costs.

Local support has grown since the state government increased its annual UniSport grant to $185,000 in the 2025-26 budget, with funds directed to travel bursaries for the Sydney trip.

Numbers behind the push

Adelaide recorded 4,872 spectators across four home matches last season, the highest figure among non-capital-city universities. Ticket prices for the opening July 18 intra-squad trial at the Sports Hub start at $18 for students and $28 for general admission, with sales handled through the university portal opening July 14.

Coaches expect at least 35 athletes per program to log 12 or more training hours weekly between now and finals week.

Fans wanting to follow the campaign can purchase a $45 season pass that covers all home trials and live streams of away pool matches. The first public session is set for July 18 at 6pm on the North Terrace ground.
