Editorial
Sponsored content policy
The Daily Adelaide accepts advertising and sponsorship to fund our independent local journalism in Adelaide. We follow the Australian Consumer Law (administered by the ACCC) and the Australian Association of National Advertisers (AANA) Code of Ethics. This page sets out how we disclose paid content so readers can always tell what we have produced independently and what an advertiser has paid for.
1. Clear and prominent disclosure
Every piece of paid content carries an unambiguous label before the headline or at the top of the unit, such as Sponsored, Partner content, Promoted or Advertisement. Labels are not hidden in small text, after a fold, or behind hover states. We never use vague terms like "featured" or "from our friends" to disguise paid placements.
2. Editorial independence
Our newsroom decides what we cover and how. Advertisers and sponsors do not see editorial articles before publication and cannot review, edit or veto editorial coverage — including coverage of themselves. Buying advertising on The Daily Adelaide does not buy favourable news coverage, and refusing to advertise does not trigger negative coverage.
3. How sponsored articles are produced
Sponsored articles are written either by the advertiser, by a third party they engage, or by our commercial team — never by our newsroom journalists. They are reviewed by our editor for accuracy, truthfulness and compliance with this policy before publication. We will decline content that is misleading, deceptive, defamatory, discriminatory, or that makes unsubstantiated claims (especially about health, finance, property or legal services).
4. Affiliate links and commissions
We sometimes link to products and services using affiliate links that pay us a small commission if a reader makes a purchase. Articles that contain affiliate links carry a disclosure at the top. Affiliate relationships never influence which products we recommend in editorial round-ups.
5. Native and newsletter placements
Sponsored placements in our daily newsletter and "promoted" cards on category pages carry the same labelling rules as on-site articles. The label sits with the unit, not in a footer disclaimer.
6. Categories we will not accept
- Tobacco, vaping and e-cigarette products.
- Illegal products or services.
- Content that targets children inappropriately.
- Financial, medical, legal or property claims that are not substantiated or that contradict regulatory guidance from ASIC, the TGA, the Law Society or comparable bodies.
- Content that is discriminatory, hateful, or that promotes violence.
7. Corrections and complaints
If you believe a sponsored item on The Daily Adelaide is misleading or not properly disclosed, please contact our editor via the contact page. We will investigate, and where we find a label or claim has fallen short of this policy we will correct or remove the content and publish a note. Serious complaints can also be referred to Ad Standards (adstandards.com.au) or the ACCC (accc.gov.au).
8. Updates to this policy
We review this policy at least once a year and whenever Australian advertising standards change. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
