Cricket Trials Kick Off Across Suburbs

Junior cricket selection began this week as South Australian Cricket Association officials started trialing under-14 and under-16 players at the Karen Rolton Oval in North Adelaide. Sessions ran Tuesday and Thursday evenings, with around 120 young players attending over the two nights, according to an SCA spokesperson. The trials are the first stage of picking representative sides for the upcoming national underage championships, scheduled for January 2027 in Brisbane.

At the same time, the Adelaide Junior Cricket League announced final fixtures for its summer season, with grade matches set to start October 10. Clubs including Kensington, Port Adelaide, and Glenelg all reported strong registration numbers, with Glenelg’s junior coordinator noting that under-12 spots filled within three days of opening.

Football and Netball Finals Deliver Drama

On the netball courts, the South Adelaide under-15 team beat Norwood 38-32 in a see-sawing grand final at Priceline Stadium on Saturday. The match was decided in the final quarter, where South Adelaide’s defensive pressure forced nine turnovers. The win capped an undefeated season for the side.

Meanwhile, a development match between the Socceroos’ under-17 squad and a South Australian under-18 selection ended in a 2-2 draw at Football SA’s State Centre for Football in Gepps Cross on Sunday. The match was part of the national talent identification program run by Football Australia. Scouts from A-League clubs were present; the program’s director said afterward that four Adelaide-based players would be invited to a national training camp in Canberra next month.
