Adelaide University Sport and Fitness has begun consolidating approximately 66 clubs from the former University of Adelaide and UniSA into a single club per sport under the merged Adelaide University entity. A selection panel will decide which traditional clubs remain on campus as the operating model for 2025 is finalised.

The consolidation process requires clubs to operate under unified structures rather than maintaining separate entities from the pre-merger institutions. This approach affects how teams in sports such as basketball, netball and rugby 7s prepare for events including the 2026 UniSport Nationals in Perth from September 26 to October 2. The model limits duplication while preserving opportunities for student participation across the new university.

Scholarships Support Student Pathways

Adelaide University Sport and Fitness opened applications for 2026 scholarships, with 11 awards providing funding exceeding $50,000 for new recipients. These scholarships align with the university's recent 6th-place overall finish and 3rd-place result among women's teams at the UniSport Athletics Nationals. The funding assists athletes balancing study and competition within the consolidated club framework.

School Partnerships Extend Community Links

St Michael's College has expanded its 2025 Sports Talent Development Program through partnerships with the Adelaide Thunderbirds, Adelaide 36ers and Adelaide United. The Adelaide 36ers have also extended their collaboration with Sports College SA to develop young talent and support student routes into professional sport. Trinity College students added to local results by winning the State Athletics Championship again. These connections link school programs with university-level clubs and professional teams.
