Adelaide Council Prepares Implementation of Updated By-laws and Governance Steps

The City of Adelaide Council adopted the Miscellaneous Amendment By-law 2025 on 22 April 2025, with the measure scheduled to come into effect on 1 September 2025 after publication in the SA Government Gazette on 1 May 2025.

By-law Timelines Set

Updated 2024 By-laws endorsed by the Council on 27 August 2024 took effect on 5 January 2025. These include amendments to the Moveable Signs and Local Government Land by-laws that address forklift licensing at the Central Market. The Miscellaneous Amendment By-law 2025 follows the same pattern of staged rollout, giving businesses and residents time to adjust before the September start date.

Transparency Review Advances

In December 2024 the Council released 16 active confidentiality orders in part or full. This step formed part of a wider review of 504 orders under Section 91(9) of the Local Government Act 1999 (SA). The releases mark progress on opening previously restricted records while the Council continues its ordinary decision-making process.

Election Results and Meeting Schedule

The Council confirmed the results of the 2025 Central Ward supplementary election on 2 September 2025. Newly elected members completed their prescribed declarations at a special meeting held on 21 October 2025. Under the Local Government Act 1999 (SA) the Council holds two ordinary meetings each month, except in January and December, on the second and fourth Tuesday, with all meetings open to the public.
