Both said they eventually flagged down passing drivers to get help. Another resident near the Lot Fourteen precinct reported waiting 18 minutes outside a cafe before an internet cafe owner lent a landline.

These accounts come from different parts of the city yet share the same pattern of repeated failed connections during the outage that began the previous afternoon. SA Police headquarters on Angas Street confirmed officers are examining whether the network drop contributed to the reported fatality.

Numbers and next steps

Telstra figures released on July 9 show the outage affected 247,000 mobile services in South Australia, with triple-zero traffic down 37 percent between 2pm on July 8 and 10am on July 9. The company has not yet released a full restoration timeline but said engineers are working on core network routers in the Adelaide CBD.

Residents are advised to keep a charged landline or satellite messenger app ready and to register for SA Emergency alerts through the state app. Police and Telstra are expected to issue a joint update by midday tomorrow.
