Want to Work Adelaide's Big Stadiums? Here's How to Get In the Door
From corporate hospitality to gate security, Adelaide's major venues are hiring year-round — and the pathway is more accessible than most people realise.
From corporate hospitality to gate security, Adelaide's major venues are hiring year-round — and the pathway is more accessible than most people realise.

Adelaide Oval needs roughly 1,200 event-day staff to run a sold-out AFL fixture. That number climbs higher for international cricket and major concerts, and the stadium's operator, the Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority (AOSMA), fills those roles through a standing casual workforce it recruits continuously across the year. The practical upshot: there is almost always a way in, if you know where to look.
The timing matters. Australia's early World Cup exit — Egypt knocked out the Socceroos on penalties in Kansas City overnight — has refocused attention on whether Adelaide can attract a slice of global football infrastructure spending. FIFA's 2034 World Cup lands in Australia and will lean on South Australia's event-delivery credentials. Venues, ticketing bodies and hospitality contractors are already expanding their rosters in anticipation of that pipeline, and local executives say the next 18 months represent the best labour-market entry point since the city hosted the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup group stage at Hindmarsh Stadium.
Adelaide Oval on War Memorial Drive is the obvious anchor. AOSMA advertises casual event roles — ushering, food and beverage service, ground security and corporate suite hosting — through its website and via labour-hire firm Spotless, which holds the stadium's facilities management contract. Applications are open year-round; onboarding batches typically run in February and August. A standard casual usher rate sits around $27.50 per hour on a weekend penalty, in line with the Hospitality Industry General Award 2020.
Coopers Stadium in Hindmarsh, the rectangular venue on Mulberry Road that hosted Matildas matches in 2023, is managed separately by the City of Adelaide through its events arm. Casual match-day roles there are listed through the council's jobs portal, and the venue coordinates with Football Federation South Australia on volunteer match-day ambassador programs that run from August through March each season. Those ambassador positions are unpaid but come with accreditation training that transfers directly to paid applications elsewhere.
The Entertainment Centre on Port Road in Hindmarsh handles a different category of event — boxing, basketball, touring concerts — and its preferred casual supplier is Trippas White Group, which runs the venue's catering. A basic Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate, a $110 investment at any TAFE SA campus, is the minimum credential for almost every customer-facing role across all three venues.
Getting hired is less complicated than the venue scale suggests. AOSMA runs group induction sessions at the Oval's Riverside Room on the first Saturday of each month for new casual applicants. The session covers Emergency Action Plans, crowd management basics and point-of-sale systems. Total time commitment before your first shift: about six hours across two sessions. Security roles require an additional Consumer and Business Services crowd controller registration, which costs $168 and takes roughly three weeks to process.
For anyone eyeing a longer career path rather than casual shifts, the South Australian Tourism Commission runs a Stadium Events Workforce Development Grant that co-funds certificate-level training through TAFE SA's Tourism, Hospitality and Events faculty on Regency Road in Prospect. The grant covered up to $2,000 per applicant in its most recent 2025-26 round; the next application window opens in September 2026.
The AFL's official match-day volunteer program, run in partnership with the South Australian National Football League, places around 300 community members at Oval events each season in ambassador and accessibility-assistance roles. It is the lowest-barrier entry point in the city — no prior experience required, just an available Saturday and a completed online application through the SANFL's member portal.
The practical advice is simple. Start with the SANFL ambassador application or the Coopers Stadium volunteer program to get an accreditation on your record. Add an RSA certificate from TAFE SA. Then apply directly to AOSMA's monthly induction intake on War Memorial Drive. Most people who follow that sequence are on a paid roster within eight weeks. With FIFA 2034 on the horizon and Adelaide's event calendar already carrying more than 200 major stadium days per year, the demand for trained event staff is not going anywhere.
