Hiking and Walking Near Adelaide: Cleland, Morialta and the Hills Trails

Adelaide's proximity to the Mount Lofty Ranges gives it some of the most accessible quality bushwalking of any Australian capital city, with the summit of Mount Lofty reachable within 45 minutes of the CBD. Cleland Conservation Park adjacent to the Mount Lofty summit has a network of walking tracks from easy to challenging, with native wildlife including kangaroos and koalas visible en route. Morialta Conservation Park at Norwood has a dramatic gorge walking circuit through red and grey gum woodland to First, Second and Third Falls — the Falls Trail loop is consistently highly rated and accessible to most fitness levels. Belair National Park, 20 minutes from the CBD via train, is the second oldest national park in Australia with extensive walking tracks through mixed eucalypt woodland. The Heysen Trail, Australia's longest walking trail, begins at Cape Jervis on the Fleurieu Peninsula and can be accessed by day walkers from multiple trailheads in the Adelaide Hills. The linear Torrens-to-Torrens Trail through Adelaide's urban landscape connects the Hills to the coast via a continuous green corridor.
